75 students from our younger grades (K-2nd grades), met on Friday for their first hands-on gardening lessons @Lunch! The previous week, we had 40 of the older students (3rd-5th grades) for a total of 115 Students in the Program!
Due to the weather we had to pivot our plans, deciding to stay under the cover out front and enjoyed a picnic lunch while discovering nature. We split into groups: Mrs Nyszczot’s group did gardening like pulling weeds at our front entrance, seeing painted lady caterpillars up close, and planting indoor seeds for the “three sisters” (corn, squash, beans), learning about the safety rules needed in the garden.
Mrs Tefft (a parent who is s teacher on sabbatical) has been helping with curriculum. Her group studied worms with a hands-on lesson, learning about their benefits to gardens and the kids loved playing with these guys! Cheetahs just love worms!
Thank you to our Parent Leader volunteers and Mrs Tefft — we couldn’t do it without you!
Here are some photos from this gloomy day brightened by these smiles!
