Student Photos and Instructions for Take-Home Plants— Grow Your Own Food…at Home!!!

This Spring, we have a total of 115 TFES Students part of our Learn@Lunch Program, exploring nature hands-on in the new TFES Food Garden! In the TFES Garden Club, we focus on growing our own food (and eating it too!). Part of our mission is to help our families grow at home, so we are sending our kids home with seedlings.

THE LAST WEEKS: WE ARE SENDING HOME WITH YOUR KIDS, CLEAR CUPS OF SOIL WITH SEEDS YOUR KIDS PLANTED!

For more about how to care for your takehome plants, see below.

How to Grow Food

We have put together a PDF with steps to grow most plants from seed.

*** Your Plant Can Go Right Outside — just be sure to water it, but not too much. See transplanting instructions on how to plant into your garden or larger container (easiest way to start).

Coming Up in the Garden: Salad Tasting Parties

Our students will taste the Fruits of their Labors at our annual Salad Party, on the last day of their @Lunch class: May 26th (for 3rd-5th) and June 9TH(for K-2nd). We will have the Spring crop harvested (leafy greens, snow peas and radishes)! During the Salad Party, students can bring out their lunch, like all classes; however, we will also have a Salad Barfeaturing their harvest! We offer some ranch dressing and salad toppers, as we encourage the children to try new foods that they grew themselves! Students will have a chance to sign the “2023 Taste It” Banner for them to sign if they tried a new food!

Below are some photos from last June, when we wrapped up the Student Program for the school year! That day, 115 students received awards and enjoyed the fruits of their labor with a SALAD PARTY! Click to See all the photos from 2022 Salad Party.
