Outdoor Classroom Progress and Thanks

We can now seat a full class, safely with our like-new tables! The tables that we had been using and the stumps were not the safest for our students. It was a long-term goal to replace the seating. A dream of Garden Club was to create this open-air classroom in nature available to all TFES students.

Read below about the incredible journey the tables have made to find a home at TFES!

TFES TEACHER @ THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM

Now, TFES Teachers can reserve the Outdoor Classroom, during the school day to bring their classes to the great outdoors on TFES grounds. We hope to enable teachers to offer hands-on, engaging experiences in this outdoor space.

The Outdoor Classroom is next to the TFES Food Garden (see map). Along with the seating, our TFES teachers can educate utilizing the food-producing garden, sensory table and neighboring pollinator garden.

There is seating for about 40 students using our outdoor tables, with attached bench seating. Teachers can utilize these spaces to teach science/nature-related lessons, which are already a part of their curriculum.

Most Valuable Gardener Award (MVG)

Fortunately, our friends at the Camden Children ‘s Garden offered like-new tables at a deep-discount. And since our TFES PTO is the best, we got them. The tricky part is getting them transported from Camden, NJ. TFES parents are the best too, so Bob Ariyamitr offered to make 3 trips to Camden (near his work) to pickup the 5 tables-with-seating, and deliver them safely to TFES! What an incredible journey.
