MCIU Special Needs Students in the Garden

Part of the TFES Garden Club’s purpose is to serve ALL TFES Students with our Food Garden, Outdoor Classroom and mission to “Grow food and young minds on the edge of Upper Dublin”. With that, we invite the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) students with special needs to join us in the garden each spring.

This year, we began with a welcome by Mrs Tracy Nyszczot, followed by a tour of the TFES Food Garden. We then briefly discussed plant parts and their needs, so that the students and staff could be best prepared to care for their “Adopted Plant Babies”. We then finished up with the take-home planting activity, where each student and their aides filled a pot with soil, chose seeds to plant and received more instructions about How-To Grow @Home. And we of course took the Photo Opt in front of the garden! Thanks to the MCIU staff for making this event possible — and for their continued selfless care for these spectacular students with contagious smiles.
